Former Hammies Memories

John Pinchbeck has been in touch and has sent on some of his fond memories from his 9 years at our famous club:

I played full-back from 1969-1978 and in the side which won the Colin Munro cup ('71 I think) I also got selected after trials at Hampden there
for the Scottish League side for the Baxter trophy in '71-losing to Ayrshire in the final 2-0.

I loved my time there and made many friends -even married an Eaglesham girl- She was friends with many girls - George McIntyre's wife being one (he is in your '53 picture as mascot - see below).

I played 1st team until '77 but ended up in the 2nd string for '78 winning the player of the year award - politics got in the way of first team football - long story!

I moved south with my job in '78 and played semi-pro (junior)for King's Heath in the Midland Combination (strange when I couldn't get a name for the Ham's 1st team ??). We often visit and have lunch in the "EG" and watch the odd game-trying to catch old friends.

I met a lot of nice people there - thanks to my wife Rosie (Hamilton) farmers.
From memory, Manager and great guy who changed my life -Jim McGuire players:
Jimmy (Joksie) Reid -eventual manager
Hugh Cassidy (RIP)midfield and great guy
Des Thompson (RIP)a real comic who scored to put holders Queensieburn out of the Scottish cup in the first round!
George McIntyre
Alan Cuthbertson farmer and all-round nice guy.
Gordon McIntosh a legend in training (and drinking)
Alistair McIntosh nice guy and committed drinker
Jimmy Maxwell (my best man)smashing guy-unfortunately lost trace.
Joe & Charlie Sharkey -Joe went south before me but I think Charlie is still in the pub.
George Read (brilliant keeper)from Busby who signed for Queen's Park
Malky (winger) from Busby-scored 2 free-kicks to win the Colin Munro cup-pisshead but brillant smashing guy/player.
John Little-the hardest-working striker around and again smashing guy Pat ? great midfielder and nice guy
"Boatsie" nice guy and a laugh a minute and briefly the
Also the guy who (used to) own the Eglinton Arms to name a few.
I remember Billy Inglis but before my time, I think.

Best regards,
John
